in this section of my portfolio, i have displayed my fine arts works.
"hamile kadın" (pregnant woman), 2022. clay relief, painted with gouache. 10h-10w.
tarot the devil card, 2022
in this project i wanted to make a detailed ceramic sculpture. then, i decided on tarot cards. a really close friend of mine introduced me to the tarot this year and then, we had to part company with each others. this brought up a lot of resentment and other emotional tackling. that is why, i chose the devil (şeytan, in turkish). actually reverse up-carded devil card to emphasize that my two wishes for us are to get around of binding things about our relationship, which would turn out to be unpleasant if continued, and have a healthy relationship in-long-term.
i wanted to color the ceramic with warm colors in order to emphasize that i had and still have a close and warm relationship with this person whom i am inspired by to create this ceramic. i wanted the ceramic to make me/ experiencer to feel cozy and peaceful.
(i used reference photos for the design. this is a personal project for to see what i can do with clay.)
Kybele and Her Cloth (a reproduction of the Frig's Kybele sculpture and I added an external cloth)
Ceramics, 2023, 20 cm height
This work is about women in Turkey who take off their scarves. As I read through the materials, as I sucrutinize the fact that both men and women were awanked, after eating the forbiden fruit, to realize they are naked, Both wanted to cover themselves from the external eyes, I wanted an answer for why women is more covered than men according to the three big religions. What was the line that have women covered and hiden from the external eyes yet not men?
“korkak” kağıt üstüne pastel boya, 2023. (english below)
"afraid," crayon on paper, 2023.
"isimsiz," 2022. 25cm-35cm gouache on canvas.
In this work I focused on two lover’s most intimate moment, naked, laying down next to each other, just breathing each other…
in my artistic creations, i venture into the realm of the most intimate human moments, illustrating scenes of profound connection, including those of a sexual nature. through my work, i strive to challenge societal norms and engage in a candid exploration of the beauty inherent in these moments.
i aim to emphasize that these scenes are not just physical encounters, but reflections of emotional and spiritual bonds between individuals. in many cases, societal attitudes and religious contexts can obscure the significance and natural beauty of such experiences. my art seeks to peel back these layers, prompting viewers to question preconceptions and reevaluate the roles of intimacy within relationships.
i believe that art has the power to spark conversations and catalyze introspection. by depicting these intimate scenes with care and respect, i endeavor to highlight the genuine connections that exist beyond the superficial. my intention is not to disregard or disrespect any religious beliefs, but rather to reclaim a narrative of love, connection, and authenticity.
in a world often stifled by taboos, my art invites viewers to engage in a more open dialogue about relationships and intimacy. by shedding light on the value of these moments, i hope to contribute to a broader understanding of human connection, while encouraging a reevaluation of perspectives that may have been influenced by societal constructs.
